§ 12.02. Civil service commission.

  • There shall be a civil service commission consistent of three (3) members appointed by the mayor with the consent of the council and the board of education of independent school district number 625. Terms shall be six (6) years, except that one of the three (3) members first appointed shall serve for a term of two (2) years and one for a term of four (4) years. All appointments shall be from among the qualified voters of the city who are in known sympathy with the application of merit principles to public employment. No member may hold any office or employment under the city. A member shall cease to be a member of the commission upon becoming a candidate for elective city office. The council may, by administrative ordinance, provide compensation and reimbursement of expenses for the commissioners and establish a procedure for the appointment of alternates. Any member may be removed by the council for cause after a hearing. Proceedings for removal may be initiated by the mayor, the council or the board of education.
